Bug Description

Dear Developers,

In Ubuntu Quantal and Ubuntu Raring if I enabling Orca with braille support, the Orca's debug.out file I see following traceback error message:
BrlTTY seems to have disappeared:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/orca/braille.py", line 1720, in _brlAPIKeyReader
    key = _brlAPI.readKey(False)
  File "brlapi.pyx", line 535, in brlapi.Connection.readKey (brlapi.auto.c:6558)
brlapi.OperationError: <unprintable OperationError object>

If I remember right an oldest I opened thread with Brltty mailing list, this problem related the Python3 Brltty bindings.

I attaching the Orca debug.out file.

Attila

The python3 binding issue brings the "unprintable" part, but most
probably not the error which triggered it.

Does the user which runs orca have access to /etc/brlapi.key?

Is the /etc/brlapi.key file not empty?

Is the brltty daemon running?

attachment.
When I booting my Raring system, I see Brltty version number, my braille
display are initialized.
Following the /etc/brlapi.key file permissions:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 33 jan 11 11:02 /etc/brlapi.key

Your openion I try compile a latest source Brltty version from the
Brltty repository? If yes, this situation I how can compile Python bindings?

Hy Samuel,

I have got a good news:
The Debian Sid awailable version wonderful working my Ubuntu 13.04
system. I simple download the deb package related source files, install
the missing build dependencies and build the package from source.
I think this version not using Cithon when building Python bindings.
Sure by sure I change the /etc/default/brltty file the
START_IN_INITRAMFS setting from false to true, and ran update-initramfs
-u command. Testing purpose I used the 4.4-8 package version.
Before this changes, restart and shutdown operations little slow my
system (about 10-13 second). Now, my system the restart and shutdown
operation done about maximum three second.

What the next step? Not matter if need entire installing my Ubuntu
Raring system and try this changes the Ubuntu Raring original awailable
package version (remove Cithon related patch, switch back Python binding
build with python-pyrex) and test a package build.

Too early I happy.
Have only one problem with I unable to resolve. If I launch my machine
with Ubuntu 12.04 system the 4.3 rev 5477 version, everithing is works
fine. When I shutdown my system and booting with Ubuntu raring, my
braille display is detected correct, but I see only my braille display
the "Welcome to Orca" message and enjoi. This situation both console and
graphic session Brltty not working right. The killall brltty and execute
brltty command not help, reconnect my braille display is not help. If I
restart my Raring system this situation, all works right again, all Orca
braille outputted messages I right see, in console and graphic session
Brltty works right.
My braille display is an Alva Satelite 570 display, the display is
connected with USB.
