I have attached a screenshot of my screen. I am using Google chrome.
It's that distort box on the top left corner. sometimes, it will fill up my
screen
the same size as the webpage. I have to close the browser completely to
remove it.

I have had this problem both on 20.04 and now in 20.10 (and long before those). I believe it is same as
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/600805/fuzzy-graphics-after-suspend-win-nvidia-drivers

I tried the instructions in
https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/450.57/README/powermanagement.html
but the machine could not come back from suspend

I think this is a manifest of NVIDIA has volatile GPU RAM

Absolutely right. The screenshot in comment #11 appears to be this bug and it's the same kind of issue as bug 1855757 / bug 1809407, which is caused by the design of the Nvidia Linux driver:

  https://www.khronos.org/registry/OpenGL/extensions/NV/NV_robustness_video_memory_purge.txt

which means that not only gnome-shell/mutter, but also ALL OpenGL applications need to be written to support that quirk of the Nvidia driver or else will be corrupted after resume from suspend. It's quite an annoying "feature" of the Nvidia driver and you can't turn it off either. All you can do is enhance each app to support it.

P.S. Screenshots in comments #13, #15, #16 are not really this bug. They probably belong more in bug 1893217. Although in the end the fix required in Chromium might be the same.

no longer affects: mutter (Ubuntu)

Daniel, you said enhance each app meaning, should I disable the
acceleration feature within google chrome browser settings?

No, I meant that it has to be fixed by the Chrome developers. It looks like that's in progress now.

If you need a workaround then I can only suggest closing and reopening Chrome after resuming from suspend/hibernation. Then use Ctrl+Shift+T to restore your previous tabs.

Daniel, do you have a reference to the chrome fix for this?
I'm seeing problems in vscode, wine and also in kde settings app.
Is it really feasible to fix this in all apps?

The Chrome reference is in comment #21.

And no it's probably not feasible to fix all apps. But then only OpenGL apps/toolkits need fixing, which is not all apps. We only have two other choices:

  * Don't use the Nvidia driver; or

  * Wait for Nvidia to redesign their driver

You don't need to shut down. I already gave a workaround in comment #23:

Hi Daniel,

I know this is off topic but I am having wifi throughput issues.
all other devices that connected to my wireless are getting 150 - 200+ Mbps
download speed.
I have an HP OMEN gaming laptop that cannot get pass 80mbps to download
speed.

Can you help me out with how to report this?
