Bug Description

I have problem with m4a files (mpeg4 format) in Lubuntu 14.04 - they are distored (slightly slower with loads of background noise).
I have tried moc player and i get the 'cant decode' error. I do have cmus-plugin-ffmpeg / moc-ffmpeg-plugin installed and also all dependencies.
Files are not corrupted because I can play them via VLC and mplayer, but I would like to be able to open them in cmus - becasue other players I know cant handle large music libraries with good performance.
This problem started when I did fresh wipe & reload for Lubutu 14.04. I used to be able to play same files in cmus in releases 12.04, 13.04 and 13.10 with no problems.

Thank you in advance.

I have the same problem in Ubuntu 14.04. In version 13.10, everything works fine.
The problem is with the FFmpeg input plugin of cmus, I think it is fixed in the cmus repository (https://github.com/cmus/cmus), but Ubuntu ships the 2.5.0 version of cmus which is very outdated.

This is almost definitely not cmus bug, but one more instance of FFmpeg breaking its backward compatibility. Maybe this is fixed by the commit fb939e5238c128ae1837430cbf838b945d4c99a9 (https://github.com/cmus/cmus/commit/fb939e5238c128ae1837430cbf838b945d4c99a9) — but I am not sure.

I think 2.6.0 will be released in the not so distant future — hope Ubuntu/Debian will ship it soon after.

I can attest to this problem as well on Kubuntu 14.04, which was a new install and not an update from a previous Kubuntu version. Playing .mp4 files are distorted in cmus, however VLC plays them fine. Playing .mp3 files in cmus is fine as well. In my previous OS, Kubuntu 12.10, cmus would play both .mp3 and .mp4 files with no problem.
