natty: installer hangs while reading lvm partition list

alternate-amd86 beta 1 and daily as of April 10th:

on one of my machines (physical hardware), the installer hangs before showing the first partitioning dialog; the first console just shows an empty blue (beta) or violet (daily) screen, no error messages in any console
