My problem is related: I want to *add* an extra domain to my "search" list, so I modify /etc/resolv.conf and my changes to it are lost shortly afterwards (on reboot, or on DNS renew).

If there was another config file where I could place additional 'search' domains or DNS servers, or DNS servers themselves, then it could be added to resolv.conf when it gets overwritten, and that would solve my problem.
