What I think you mean is, in the notification menu, when you get an incoming message, it shows your own name rather than the person you're talking to.

I've discovered what causes this: if you start a conversation with someone, your own name is shown in the notification menu. The other party has to initiate the conversation in order for it to show their name (obviously this is a bug).

There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version.
