Bug Description

After the recent kernel update released to Hirsuite:

jik@jik5:~$ uname -r
5.11.0-11-generic
jik@jik5:~$ find /lib/modules -iname '*evdi*'
/lib/modules/5.10.0-14-generic/updates/dkms/evdi.ko
/lib/modules/5.8.0-43-generic/updates/dkms/evdi.ko
jik@jik5:~$

Attempting to dpkg-reconfigure evdi-dkms yields:

Building for 5.11.0-11-generic
Building initial module for 5.11.0-11-generic
ERROR: Cannot create report: [Errno 17] File exists: '/var/crash/evdi-dkms.0.crash'

I tried compiling the evdi module code from https://github.com/sickcodes/evdi in branch rockorequin-sickcodes-microhobby-patch-1.7.x (see https://github.com/DisplayLink/evdi/issues/249), and it builds, but it has the same problem with 5.11 that the Ubuntu version of evdi has with 5.10, that I just described at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1920067.

Ugh, what a mess.

For those of you who landed here looking for how to use DisplayLink in Hirsute, I wrote up a workaround here: https://blog.kamens.us/2021/03/19/update-on-using-displaylink-with-ubuntu-21-04-hirsute-hippo/
