Bug Description
Evolution has an inconsistent behaviour respect to the other default ubuntu applications using the messaging indicator, and doesn't fully behave according to the recommendations:
https:/
"""signal should be set such that selecting an item from the menu focuses the most relevant window to display that mailbox (for example a window that is already displaying that mailbox, if one is open), and switches to the mailbox if necessary. """
the evolution window gets focused and the taskbars is "alerted" of the change, but window isn't showed to the user to display the relevant mailbox
(see down for more details)

See the attached video (i've reduced the resolution to avoid getting a huge video)
Most of the time, when using the messaging menu to access mail or other things, the behaviour is inconsistent.
When the desktop is free from other windows, trying to access evolution or gwibber moves our desktop to the target one.
On the other hand, when there is already a window on the current desktop, trying to access gwibber will move it from its current desktop, while trying to access evolution will "alert" the window (you can't see it in the video, but it's like when a window request your attention by becoming orange in the taskbar), and the user will have to manually click through the item in the taskbar (or manually move to the other desktop) to access it.
Empathy as yet another behaviour: it's tipically dragged to the current desktop regardless of anything else.

Unfortunately the messaging menu doesn't control what applications do with the signals, that's the responsibility of the individual applications. We provide a set of recommendations:
https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/MessagingMe nu#Recommended% 20behavior% 20for%20e- mail%20clients
Applications that don't follow those should get individual bugs on their implementation.
