Evolution does not update google contacts address book

Binary package hint: evolution

I have a google account with about 300 contacts. Evolution can see them and can update them, but when I change something from within the gmail webpage, my changes don't show in Evolution. I tried setting the refresh rate to 1 minute, and I also tried to restart evolution. Still the changes don't show in Evolution. What is even stranger is that I even tried to delete the address book and created again. Still the changes don't show, as if it retains the address book in a local file even when I delete it.
