Bug Description

In the default configuration, "Vari-Bright™" is enabled, which makes a laptop mostly unusable, as it arbitrarily messes with the backlight brightness, turning is so low that you cannot see anything on websites with a dark background and so bright as to hurt the eyes in fullscreen editor windows with white background, sometimes changing the brightness if you scroll just one line or even pulsating with the rhythm of a blinking cursor. That would be acceptable as a work of conceptual art, but not in a productivity tool.

Fix: disable Vari-Bright™.

HOLY GOD vari-bright is annoying.

tried the instructions here-
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2055002

but as the poster mentions, even forcing the config file values dosen't persist after a reboot - as soon as you come back up
/usr/lib/fglrx/etc/ati/amdpcsdb reverts to PP_VariBrightFeatureEnable=V1
(/usr/lib/fglrx/etc/ati/amdpcsdb looks fine though)

driving me bonkers
