Despite 'power' settings, system always suspends when idle

Bug Description
In the 'power' section of system settings, I have both 'on battery power' and 'when plugged in' set to 'don't suspend' and 'do nothing' for the available options. In spite of this, the system will suspend when left idle (I don't know the exact duration as it only seems to happen when I sleep or go to work). The setting should be obeyed and is not.
This is for ubuntu 11.10, fully updated as of this morning. I believe the correct package is 'gnome-
I expect the settings to be obeyed. They are not.
