nautilus menu bar disappears

I add that to regain normal use of nautilus, I close all nautilus's windows ans in a terminal I type "nautilus-q". Then I raise nautilus from unity's dash

I have only experienced this in Nautilus. I've also only heard people complaining about Nautilus. I use a fully updated 11.10, with Unity.

I haven't been able to reproduce it reliably, but it has happened several times. Though it doesn't prove anything, it's only happened when I've had many windows open, multitasking heavily with several workspaces and two screens.

I use 2 pcs with synergy for share my keyboard and mouse. One is with the version 11.10 (bug) and the other with 11.04.
Both use unity.
I just update with the latest nautilus version in the Proposed repositories. I will keep informed.

I still had the problem today with the latest version of nautilus present in the Proposed repositories.
I make the same comments as Jo-Erlend :

I would add that when my system is freshly booted, if I open many windows, I can not reproduce this bug. It does seem, therefore, not directly related to the number of open windows.

Also, I have another problem that can be is related to this bug. After boot, my system is very responsive, but after a while the drag of windows (all software) or icons on the desktop is very slow.

My graphic card il a GeForce 8800GT and today i changed the drivers for test :
280.13-0ubuntu6 (current) -> 285.05.09-0ubuntu0.1 (current update)

I too experience very -- very -- slow movement of windows. It is to the point where the pointer "looses grip" of the window. I think this has been reported in another bug, however. What makes you think they're related issues? That would seem very strange to me, since they're completely separate entities.

I would like to add that menus are very slow to appear when I right click on the toolbar breadcrumbs. All other menus work well, both in and outside of Nautilus. Does Nautilus log things at all?

Just because I feel that this bug appears exactly when the display becomes slow. But indeed there can be no relationship, I just wanted to know.
For your other comments I will look if I am affected the same way when the bug will occur again.

unfortunately, I always have this problem with drivers 285.05.09-0ubuntu0.1 (current update).
But I just noticed something. Currently I have this problem.
I have three nautilus' windows (also many other software(firefox,chromium, netbeans etc) open and nautilus menus appear well.
My system is slow (movement of windows).
If I open a fourth window, the menus on this new window does not work but it's ok for the first three.
I close the fourth and another window. So I have two windows open. If I open a new window, the menu does not appear.

If you press alt+f2 and enter "killall nautilus", then the problem should go away.

This bug of freaking unity affects me as well on 11.10. It's really annoying and in my opinion not a low priority bug. It's a major show stopper when you want to connect to a server.

Same problem in 12.04, all menus are empty.

I second this bug exists in 12.04. And I don't think this is of low priority.

Steps to reproduce
1. Use all your system RAM/Memory, by opening various applications. You can tell when your Memory is full by using the "System Monitor" tool. Under "Resources > Memory and Swap History"
2. The bug usually appears around the period when the system automatically starts using "Swap" memory

Confirming that running "killall nautilus" command in Terminal does temporarely fix the issue, then the same issue reappears after a while. Find above steps to reproduce.

This bug also affects me using 12.10.

No, I haven't managed to find ways to reproduce it. It happens quit regularly and causes a lot of delay when working with nautilus. The above suggestion for filling in the RAM/Memory is not enough to explain my problem, because I also have it without filling in the RAM and accessing the swap.
