Bug Description

libxp6:i386 is not available in 15.10/Wily but is needed.

Citrix Icaclient depends on it and will not work without it.

It would be nice to have it in the repos again.

I'm seeing this in xenial as well. It looks like this existed in main up through vivid, but not wily or xenial. There is a debian package in unstable, but I don't know if this could be a straight sync or if Ubuntu-specific patches need to be merged.

Looks like I spoke too soon. There is a package in unstable for arm64 via debports, but no package for any of the standard architectures in the official repos. Since xprint is deprecated, it looks like this was a conscious choice to remove this from debian: https://bugs.debian.org/657253

So, looks like those of us supporting proprietary software with these dependencies are out of luck. Grabbing the old libxp.so.6 and setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH... :-)

Status should probably be changed to "Won't Fix," but I can't do this myself.

Please could someone post instructions on how to do this: "grabbing the old libxp.so.6 and setting ld_library_path"? I am stuck because I can't run Matlab.

Well not a fix, but a workaround for those of you struggling, simply add the trusty repository, install libxp6, then remove it...

create:

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/libxp-source.list

as:

# Used to install libxp6 for chemkin and ansys to work
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu trusty main universe

apt-get update
apt-get install libxp6

Then comment out the repository line and

apt-get clean all

No updates, etc, but you get the library you need for now.

If you don't want to change your repositories (even temporarily), I have created a PPA just for that package here:

https://launchpad.net/~zeehio/+archive/ubuntu/libxp

I have published the package for xenial:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:zeehio/libxp
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libxp6

It contains the latest version from Debian before it was removed.
