The solution is this:

Boot into a different kernel than 2.6.32-41*, I booted into 2.6.32-40. Now, I don't have graphics drivers installed for that kernel, so what I did next was to ssh back into my machine from my macbook adding the -X command (X forwarding). I then proceeded to completely remove all packages with the version 2.6.32-41* (including configuration files). I suppose you could do this via apt-get at the shell also. Then I re-installed the 2.6.32-41* packages that were removed. This time, dpkg finishes normally. Reboot and you're back to the latest version of the kernel (properly installed).
