Bug Description

With my brand new MSI GS70 2QE gaming notebook, my WiFi doesn't work. I installed the lastest kernel 3.18.0-031800rc3-generic and run apt-get update and upgrade but with no result.

WORKAROUND: I use an RJ45 cable i do get internet though.

The issuing of the comand "ifconfig -a" is as follow:

as you can see no wlan or wlan0 showing up.

Lastly, when i boot Ubuntu before the user screen password appears get the message:

This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. From a terminal window please run:

apport-collect 1389716

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the Ubuntu Kernel Team.

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of a regression, and when this regression was introduced. If this is a regression, we can perform a kernel bisect to identify the commit that introduced the problem.

I ran the "apport-collect 1389716" command and changed the bug's status to Confirmed.

I had this problem as soon as I installed ubuntu 14.04 64-bit in UEFI mode, to make it run along a windown 8.1 shipped machine.
The kernel version I had right after installation was the 3.13 and upgraded to the 3.16 and 3.18 after but none of them solve the wi-fi issue.

R0blucci, when running the apport-collect one needs to ensure they are booted into the default Ubuntu kernel, not a mainline/upstream one.

Hence, could you please run it again and post the terminal results here?

Sorry okay, then I rerun ubuntu installation just to make absolutely sure that everything is at default value and run the command.

R0blucci, if you haven't heavily modified your current install with non-default / custom packages / PPAs, you could just boot into a live environment via http://releases.ubuntu.com/ and then do the apport-collect.

R0blucci, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this problem to the appropriate mailing list (ath10k) by following the instructions _verbatim_ at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel ?

Please provide a direct URL to your e-mail to the mailing list once you have made it so that it may be tracked.

Thank you for your understanding.

io, this report has nothing to do with bluetooth. If you are having a problem with that, it will help immensely if you filed a new report with the Ubuntu repository kernel (not mainline/upstream) via a terminal:
