I've installed on the system with ppa: Xen 4.9 / libvirt / jenkins (additiional ppa)
this problem occures only when I'm using the Xen Kernel. Normal boot is working fine.
Machine is a dell precision tower 3620. Onboard grapic chip i7700 (intel HD Graphics 630)
the system beneath it is a lvm. lagecy boot (no efi)

Will run with Kernel-Debugging and or ACPI-Debugging guidelines.
Do you need any more infos? Please ask ;)

appendet the longer debug output. without splash and quiet at kernel parameters

surprisingly the startscreen let me see my username, the taskbar was displayed but when I hit RETURN, it was frozen again. executed commands for debugging over ssh.

I now can limit the error to Intel HD Graphics 630 (used in i7 7700) ubuntu 17.10 (maybe also 16.04, had sometimes same trouble with it & unity) AND Xen 4.9. the package I compiled my selfe for 16.04.

I used an ATI Radeon HD 8670 and the bug vanished.

I'm happy to help testing.

sincerely Armin

side node: this is crazy, I can log my selfe out when I plug in a second monitor int to the onboard graphic!!!
(ok, the first monitor then shows some wired i915 errors all the time). After the second Monitor is unplugged again, the error messages disappear and the loginscreen is loaded.

After this an x-server error showed up. I followed the error-wizzard of ubuntu. So there is an other report submitted 10 min ago. (the errorsubmitting window just vanished without telling me where this is submitted.)

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.15 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I can confirm that the bug stays the same with the kernel released today.
uname -r: 4.15.0-041500rc2-generic
I plugged in a second monitor into the intel HD Graphics 630 and the GUI crashed as described before.

I mayby might had the same problem with 16.04 and Xen 4.9

History of the machine:
