Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu Lunar Lobster (development branch)
Release: 23.04

libinput-bin:
  Installed: 1.22.1-1
  Candidate: 1.22.1-1
  Version table:

 *** 6.2.0.20.20 500
        500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu lunar/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

After upgrading to the 23.04 beta from 22.10 the system (an ASUS PN-50 mini-PC) became unresponsive to any (USB) keyboard or mouse input.

This is still the case when the Ubuntu recovery option is chosen in the boot menu.

Different USB keyboards and mice/plugging unplugging etc have no effect.

The system boots all the way to the Ubuntu login screen and can be accessed via ssh.

When booted into Windows all is still functioning correctly

Unclear if this is a libinput problem, or lies elsewhere (kernel?)

The kernel log shows the mouse and keyboard were found during boot, connected to the Genesys Logic, Inc. Hub. But a few seconds later the hub disconnected. So you might have a faulty USB hub. Please try without it.

There isn't an external hub for the keyboard - there are three USB-A ports on the Asus PN50 itself (the mouse is daisy-chained with the keyboard).

I have tried plugging the keyboard into all 3 ports with no response and also plugging in the mouse separately rather than via the keyboard - again no response to either.

The setup wasn't having any problems with 22.10 immediately before the upgrade nor has it any now any when booted into Windows 11.

I can select items in the Grub boot menu (memtest/Ubuntu/Ubuntu recovery/Windows 11) but as soon as I am in to Ubuntu or Ubuntu recovery the keyboard and mouse are dead.

This (i.e. hub disconnects on boot, so no usb for keyboard or mouse) is still an issue with the release version of 23.04.

USB functions as expected when running the latest mainline kernel (6.3.1 at time of writing)

Not quite fixed-upstream....

It took me a little while to realize that USB works with the 6.3.1 mainline kernel only after restarting from Windows 11. With a cold boot into Ubuntu it is still dead.

The restart from Windows11 doesn't give working USB with the 6.2 kernel.

The bug is no longer present with a clean install of the current (14th Sept) 23.10 daily. USB is functioning booting directly into Ubuntu.
