Dear friends,

sef also tried creating a mobile broadband connection in the connection manager plasmoid but it didn't succeed in connecting, nor it gave any messages on the desktop.

I think that there are suspicious lines in CurrentDmesg like
[ 510.688395] usb 5-1: USB disconnect, address 3
and
[ 510.691337] sierra 5-1:1.0: device disconnected
and
[ 513.753392] sierra ttyUSB0: Sierra USB modem converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
[ 513.753483] sierra ttyUSB1: Sierra USB modem converter now disconnected from ttyUSB1
[ 513.753565] sierra ttyUSB2: Sierra USB modem converter now disconnected from ttyUSB2
and eventually
[ 795.856694] usb 5-1: USB disconnect, address 4
[ 795.859832] sierra 5-1:1.0: device disconnected
[ 796.321506] sierra ttyUSB3: Sierra USB modem converter now disconnected from ttyUSB3
[ 796.321650] sierra ttyUSB4: Sierra USB modem converter now disconnected from ttyUSB4
[ 796.321784] sierra ttyUSB5: Sierra USB modem converter now disconnected from ttyUSB5

Are these normal disconnect messages, please? Perhaps this is a physical problem. sef said to me that socket was quite dusty at some point. Perhaps try to clean it with air pressure, sef?

Many blessings.

Dear sef,

Please paste the output of the command 'lsusb' here. Run this command while the card is already inserted, please.

Dear sef,

I think that it is necessary that it is plugged in to a different laptop which runs kubuntu 9.04.

Knowing whether it worked in this case could provide important information.

I suggest that you burn a Kubuntu installation CD and have it with you and in the case that you meet someone with a laptop, boot his laptop from the CD and insert your card.

Many blessings.

Fresh install of Kubuntu 9.10 Beta, KDE 4.3.2, Sierra Wireless USB 598 (Sprint) will not connect. Connects just fine on my WINXP laptop. I switched from Fedora 11 and this card worked perfectly out of the box on Gnome and KDE in Fedora.
