Bug Description

Note, this is the same as bug 851070 but since that bug was closed without fixing anything, I'm opening a new bug.

Using 11.10 server (32bit), the current jme driver module distributed in the Linux kernel is outdated, resulting in non-functioning gigabit capabilities for JMC2x0 series Gigabit NICs by JMicron. This can be duplciated on an ASUS EB1007 which supposedly an officially supported PC http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201105-7956

The current driver version in Ubuntu's distributed kernel is 1.0.7. The driver version in the upstream Linux kernel is 1.0.8. The latest driver version by the OEM is 1.0.8.3, listed as 1.0.8.2-jmmod in the source code.
ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/Ethernet/Linux/

We have downloaded the latest driver, compiled and installed it and the ASUS EB1007 now works. Please update the distribution so that future releases will have this issue fixed. thanks

@Athir

The 1.0.8 version of the jme driver appears to be in the Oneric(11.10) and Precise releases(12.04). Can you run a sudo modinfo MODULE_NAME and see what version you have?

You may need to apply the latest updates:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
