Bug Description

I am on Ubuntu12.04 64bit updated to 7.4.2012.

On this platform I am using qemu-kvm1.0 with virt-manager(?->latest).

I have had runned a Ubuntu12.04 guest in this configuration. On newstart sequence to finishing updates of the guest(new kernel verison) the guest vm crashed.

A .crash file was gathered in /var/crash/ for this, but apport failed to report it and crashed itself:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/975832

The .crash file of the qemu-kvm issue is above 600MB of size, which may be the cause for apport failing.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.

I will mark it as also affecting the kernel.

Have you had any other instabilities, beside qemu-kvm, on this system?

Certainly looks like the kvm module was deadlocked on exit,

I have had runned two other vm is parallel.

Brad Figg (brad-figg) wrote : Test with newer development kernel (3.2.0-23.36)

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the following commands in a terminal window:

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

Yes, kernelbugs are all arround.

I have not reproduced it with the Ubuntu 3.2.0-22.35-generic 3.2.14, so a not reproducibility with the every latest says nothing about if the bug is still there or not.

A vm can have a high number of different sates which I could not controll in detail.

So retesting requests on virtualisation bugs where it is not absolutely sure that they are 100% reproducible crashers are useless.

(And mostly the are not deterministic ones.)

As soon as I have amd hardware available I'll try a series of guest updates to reproduce.
