Bug Description
Beware of Ubuntu server edition
Serious (professinal use) of servers requires raid-1 so that sudden death of a hard drive does not result in loss of valuable data.
I installed Lucid Beta1 with system on an non raid partition and data on raid-1 mounted at /DAT2. Installation worked as expected.
However, when I removed the 2nd drive in order to simulate a defect, I was no longer able to boot the system because it hung with the splash screen showing "Waiting for /DAT2"
When I reconnected the 2nd drive it booted again, but it took several hours !! to resync the raid-1 and during that time the system was not available.
Lucid looks does not look bright and that's why I will stay with old but proven Lenny...

Found out that during boot mdadm generates segfault, but cat /proc/mdstat shows raid-1 is ready and ok.
Yet transfer rates of samba are still so slow that I wonder who is satisfyed by such a solution?
Have a look at the very old bug: /bugs.launchpad .net/ubuntu/ +source/ linux/+ bug/471512
