Bug Description

I cannot manually arrange (drag and drop) url desktop launchers after upgrade from ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10. I get error message (Error while copying "/") with details (Error opening file "/": is a directory). Keep aligned is turned off. This only happens when trying to reposition url related launchers. Some of the launchers were created by using Firefox "Create Deskcut" and some with the older Nautilus "Create-Launcher" script.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1245214/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Thank you for your bug report, could you describe the exact steps you are using to trigger the issue?

Just the old "drag and drop" routine. Position pointer over desktop icon, left click and hold down then move to another position on the desktop.

you get errors when doing that? that's very weird ... does it happen in a guest session as well or only for your user?

I'm the only user so cannot comment on the "Guest Session" question as none are set up. Some "shortcuts" do not exhibit this problem. The "Home" icon, for example, can be moved around freely. From the error message I described it appears the operation is trying to copy root (/). I have another "machine" that has not been upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 that doesn't have this problem. It, however, has nautilus version 3.6.3 instead of version 3.8.2 that was installed with the 13.10 upgrade on this computer.

Don't know if this matters but the file type of the "offenders" is HTML document (text/html). The "non offenders" have different and varied file types.

The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME.
