Bug Description

Binary package hint: netbeans

On NetBeans wiki:

"In NetBeans 6.0 JavaScript support is standard part of NetBeans Core IDE"

But my NetBeans 6.8 installation doesn't recognize .js files (displayed as standard text). No code highlighting, when I go to file properties in Files window, i get unrecognizes file note. There is 'no' plugin for JavaScript support. Only plugin with JavaScript is "JavaScript Debugger" with this description:

"Version: 1.2 Source: NetBeans Beta
Plugin Description
Provides the JavaScript debugger for Firefox and Internet Explorer, for use in web applications. Also includes the Client side HTTP Monitor."

I tried to install it and now JavaScript support is working. Either the description of the plugin is totaly wrong or there is some other problem and by installing this plugin the JavaScript support just activates

The reason for such behavior is that netbeans package contains "stripped" IDE. javascript support is removed from the package build because of lack of some external libraries in Ubuntu. When you install "JavaScript Debugger" all absent modules are also installed by UC. It will be fixed as soon as required external libraries are packaged for Ubuntu.

Changed in netbeans (Ubuntu):

confirmed in Ubuntu 10.10 32bit using Netbeans 6.9.

The only JS plugin I get is called "NodeJS" which has nothing to do with the JS core for netbeans.

I found the solution is to enable the official netbeans repository and then update all of the plugins. Javascript support worked fine after that.

I can also confirm this is still a problem in Ubuntu 11.04 and the fix above still fixes the issue.
