network-manager doesn't display connected network or signal strength

Bug Description

1. connect to a wireless network by clicking on the name in the applet.
2. check that the connection works.
3. see that there is no network listed on "Wireless Networks" in the applet. (Although the "Disconnect" words are there and functional.)
4. see that the signal strength is apparantly empty on the applet icon. (Yet the signal strength is actually quit strong.)

it is not fixed but i have a hard time reproducing the problem reliably.

I have this exact same problem, only I'm on 12.04. Pretty sure it was fixed for me in 12.10 when I tried that, but I'd really like it fixed in 12.04. PowerPC iBook with b43 module.

Krister, apologies for spamming your bug report, but I thought it was probably worth adding that this occurs with every variant of ubuntu I tried - Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu (2D), Kubuntu. When connecting, the wireless name is displayed under 'Wireless Networks' in the menu, but disappears when it connects. You get a flash of the correct signal strength when it first connects and then you get the no signal icon thereafter.
