Bug Description
Binary package hint: network-manager
As shown in the Screenshot the Network Connections window does not have a connect button. If everything goes well the connection will appear in the network manager window. However some users may not know that they have to switch focus from the edit connections window to the panel. More importantly, what if there is some problem? The UI does not provide the use any way of saying "I know you think the connection is unavailable, but please try to connect and give me an error message telling me what is wrong.". As shown in the screen shot, the "Vodafone" connection has not appeared. I can think of a number of reasons why it might not appear:
- Flaw in usb cable or phone
- Blue man not correctly configured.
- APN for vodafone incorrect.
- Software bug
However without an error message I cannot tell which it is. Even a unhelpful Error message like "Unknown Error" would atleast let me know it was trying to connect and give me a phrase I could Google for.
I have heard that blueman has to be used in place of the bluetooth utilities is required, that Ubuntu's default apn for vodafone is incorrect, and that USB is easier to set up than bluetooth. I have tried all that and nothing worked. But that is not what this bug report is about.
This bug is about the lack of a button that will always either connect or provide the user with some error message.
