Bug Description
Binary package hint: network-
The user ID entered in the dialog is not used for the connection. The current login session is used instead. Confirmed by output in syslog.
Ubuntu 8.04.01

Potential security issue since the wrong user id is used.

It seems to be using the machine name on mine, because the username I chose to log in with is the same as my VPN.
