Bug Description

Binary package hint: nfs-common

While switching from ethernet to wi-fi a mounted NFS share is not accessible for a while.
The ethernet is a intel e1000 (in 100T network) and the wireless is ipw220 (g,wpa2).

/etc/fstab line:
dogon:/mnt/data /media/data nfs rw,hard,intr,user,noauto,noexec 0 0

steps to reproduce :
$ mount /media/data
[change network interface from ethernet to wi-fi]
$ ls /media/data
[hangs for a few minutes or until changing back to ethernet network]

dmesg output (dogon is the server NFS server name) :
[17186070.672000] nfs: server dogon not responding, still trying
[17186101.144000] nfs: server dogon not responding, still trying
[17186803.580000] nfs: server dogon not responding, still trying
 [17186942.368000] nfs: server dogon OK
 [17186942.368000] nfs: server dogon OK

versions:
- nfs-common 1:1.0.9-2ubuntu1
- linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I can confirm, that I have the same problem with Ubuntu 8.04. anytime I plug-in a network cable switching to eth0 from wlan0, it freezes..
kernel version 2.6.24-19-generic, nfs-common 1:1.1.2-2ubuntu2.1

I am also affected by this issue.
And it causes the whole system to go haywire.
besides that; dmesg also prints out dozens of this message:
> wlan0: RX disassociation from 00:16:b6:d9:8a:8d (reason=7)
Don't know if its of any relevance.

same problem here.

Ubuntu 8.04
nfs-common 1:1.1.2-2ubuntu2.1
Linux miles 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 20 22:56:21 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

the nfs-server is a debian etch box in my LAN:

Linux jaco 2.6.26-bpo.1-amd64 #1 SMP Tue Sep 2 09:38:17 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux
nfs-common 1.0.10-6+etch.1
nfs-kernel-server 1.0.10-6+etch.1

is there at least some way to "reset nfs"? umount -fl on all nfs-mounts doesn't help. the problem fixes itself after some time (dmesg:
[ 6620.654359] nfsacl: server jaco not responding, timed out
[ 6663.431487] nfs: server jaco OK), can I accelerate that?

I'm using a Intel D945GCLF2 (Atom 330) motherboard with Ubuntu 8.10. In this network is a Freenas server running. To mount the 2 drives available in my Freenas server I added the following to /etc/fstab

192.168.1.250:/mnt/tvixhd1 /mnt/movies nfs rw 0 0
192.168.1.250:/mnt/tvixhd4 /mnt/audio nfs rw 0 0

After some time my connection on the Ubuntu machine gets lost and slows the Ubuntu machine down or even locks it because it can't find the NFS shared drives. I find in SYSTEM LOG this error.

Dec 4 20:52:39 iGadget330 kernel: [38089.188040] nfs: server 192.168.1.250 not responding, still trying

Restarting the Freenas server does the trick. I don't think this should be needed since my DVICO TVIX HD5000 player still can find the NFS drives on the Freenas server. It's a Ubuntu/D945GCLF2 problem I think.

Dec 4 20:54:27 iGadget330 kernel: [38197.530401] r8169: eth0: link up

I also tried setting the Ubuntu machines ethernetport to 100Mbit/s with following command. For a while this looked like it worked. But since yesterday I get the same problems again.

sudo ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off

As I think of it, before with 8.04 I didn't have this problem.

I confirm the bug on 8.10

After some time of normal work, appears
nfs: server 10.1.5.1 not responding, timed out

forced unmounting and mounting again works, but "not responding, timed out" really freezes IO.
