Bug Description

bq device, r21

After experiencing this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ofono/+bug/1449990 I also noticed that when the phone silently switches from O2-DE to o2-de+ or vice versa, the mobile data connection disappears, the symbol that appear is just the empty "angular" signal, if the screen is locked, and nothing works.

If the screen is unlocked then there is no problem, it goes with the other carrier and everything is fine.

The only way to have it back is to reboot, similarly to what happens here https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1435328 .
Also switching manually back to the other carrier does not make it come back.

Thanks for the bug report. From your bug description, I don't think you're hitting bug #1435328 as your network indicator shows no connection, whereas the scenario in that bug was that the indicator showed a valid mobile data connection when the connection actually had disconnected. That bug's been marked FixReleased and the related fix to ofono should be released as an official update imminently.

Regarding your specific problem, I'm assuming you've set 'Data Roaming' to enabled per bug #1449990?

Are you familiar with adb and/or shh, could you reproduce the described scenario again and attach the file /var/log/syslog from the phone?

Finally, you say: "when the phone silently switches from O2-DE to o2-de+ or vice versa, the mobile data connection disappears, the symbol that appear is just the empty "angular" signal, if the screen is locked, and nothing works".

Do you mean that you screen is on, but locked and you see the data indicator disconnect? Or did the screen go off, and when you wake the phone the network indicator shows disconnected before you've unlocked it?

Have you tried toggling flight-mode and/or mobile data to see if either also triggers a re-connect?

Finally, if you're using more than one SIM, can you please ensure that the SIM selected for mobile data is correct in Cellular Settings? We had an earlier bug on the BQ phone where this setting could change from one SIM to the other. This was fixed in one of the early updates, however it's still worth double-checking.

Also, if you are able to run adb or ssh, could you run the following script on the phone and include its output?

 $ /usr/share/ofono/scripts/list-contexts

Yes, and if the screen is unlocked there is no problem when changing network.

I try to reformulate the problem with a practical example :)

I cycle every morning from home to work through the city.
I start with my phone connected to o2-de (or o2-de+), I lock it and place it in my pocket.
I cycle to work.
When I'm there and I unlock the phone, if it is connected to the same network (o2-de, or respectively o2-de+) there is no problem.
If it is connected to the other one (o2-de+, or respectively o2-de) then there is this problem, so the icon is the empty one and there is no network.

> Have you tried toggling flight-mode and/or mobile data to see if either also triggers a re-connect?

Yes, I always try to do it first, but in this case it does not help.

I have more than one SIM and I did not check it actually, but after the reboot it works without problems on the right SIM (the other one is foreigner and the Roaming is not activated there), I will look at it tomorrow morning, if it connects to the wrong network.

I am not familiar with it unfortunately, but if you link me a guide I will gladly learn ;)

I also added the content of /var/log/syslog and the output of the command that you asked me ( /usr/share/ofono/scripts/list-contexts ).

I did it directly on the phone terminal app (with a redirect to the Picture folder, than grab the file from there), not with adb or ssh, I hope that's fine.

So, here we are with the r23 and still the same problem.

I am glad that I am not the only one to have it.
As I suspected, also people in France that use Free are experiencing something similar, see https://lists.launchpad.net/ubuntu-phone/msg13506.html

Any news and/or hope that this problem is somehow solvable?
