Bug Description

Binary package hint: padevchooser

padevchooser allows me to send my audio stream to another system, where I have my headphones plugged in, which works really amazingly well.

However, each time I log in, I have to first switch the audio sink in padevchooser, then remove the volume control applet from the panel, and then add it back in. At this point, I can then edit the volume control applet preferences to work on the volume control preferences to modify the volume for the PulseAudio mixer. But of course the keyboard buttons that I have that control volume still don't work (I can adjust the volume, but not any volume that affects how loud the sound is through my headphones).

There's also the problem that if any application is started before I select the remote sink in padevchooser, they will not manage to send their streams remotely. Also, if the pulseaudio daemon dies or the network connection goes out, anything connected to that pulseaudio server will freeze.

This is, needless to say, not as seamless as it could be.

In my configuration I have internal laptop speakers and mic. I plug in a usb headset. Kmix sees it and creates a seperate tab for the headset. In systemsettings/media I can test the headset and everything works. But in Kmix there's no way of setting the USB headset to be the one from which sound comes :( and neither is there a way of setting it to automatically become the default device when plugged in (as occurs with a standard jack headphone).

So I installed padevchooser. But even so, as the original poster states, there's no easy way to use the volume control.

I mentioned the above just to underscore how frustrating this bug is for a user who has already had to go to such trouble just to realise that their USB headset is recognised, but they can't use it without trawling google.
