Bug Description
How to reproduce:
1. Open an xterm window and a GNOME Terminal.
2. Type "foo" in the xterm window.
3. Type "bar" in the GNOME Terminal window.
4. Select "foo" in the xterm window.
5. Select "bar" in the GNOME Terminal window.
6. Start a Pidgin conversation.
7. Type "test" in the Pidgin conversation input field.
8. Select "test" in the input field.
9. Middle-click in the xterm window. At this point, "test" is pasted, as expected.
10. Middle-click in the GNOME Terminal window. At this point, "test" is pasted, as expected.
11. Left-click on the Pidgin input field, effectively de-selecting the text.
12. Middle-click in the xterm window. At this point, "foo" is pasted! That is, the previous paste buffer entry created by the xterm window.
13. Middle-click in the GNOME Terminal window. At this point, *nothing* is pasted!
This is inconsistent with other Ubuntu applications.
