Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

I am not able to log into Google Talk using Pidgin on my laptop nor desktop on 2 different networks, and 2 different releases of Ubuntu and Pidgin.
Desktop Ubuntu 10.04 Pidgin 2.6.6
Laptop Ubuntu 11.04 Pidgin 2.7.11
I have tried changing settings, deleting the account in Pidgin and creating it again, changing ports, dpkg-reconfigure, but nothing works. I am able to log into my account on my Android phone, so there is not a problem with the account itself.
I have ensured the password is correct. I have tried entering my username with @gmail.com and without. I have tried Require SSL/TLS and without, I have tried Force Old SSL and without, I have tried Allow Plaintext auth and without I have changed ports.
Nothing changes.
Debug window states connection timed out.

I have found the reason for this issue and the fix:
Due to having an android phone, and being logged into several Google services at one time Pidgin fails to connect.
The solution is simple in the Advanced tab of Modify account add talk.google.com for the connect server.
Accept the ssl certificate and you are good to go with google!
