Bug Description

After upgrading from Ubuntu 23.04 to 23.10, my Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones have Bluetooth audio problems that didn't happen on 23.04.

Initially, they connected in mono mode only, and audio was completely corrupt. I unpaired them and re-paired them, and this problem appears to be fixed.

Now they give good audio quality, but the first second or so of audio is cut off when starting playing. The audio test in the Ubuntu sound settings plays "t left" rather than "front left". If I then click on right, it says "front right" correctly. If I close the audio test and open it again, the same problem happens again.

Actually, it's more serious than this. At least half the time when switching on the headphones, the Ubuntu sound settings only shows the "Handsfree" output, not the "Headset" output. When this happens, audio quality is very poor. The short-term cure is to switch the headphones off and on again and hope that it connects correctly. This did not happen on Ubuntu 23.04.

That's a bit strange. I've been running 23.04 for the last six months, and did not have any audio problems until after I upgraded to 23.10.

I'm not confident it is the same issue, since I'm having audio stutter problems with all output devices: headphones, HDMI and built in speakers since upgrading to 23.10. The behavior is that the audio randomly drops out for about 500ms as if the volume had been turned to 0 and then volume returns to normal. It isn't exactly a stutter since no audio is repeated, audio from during the dropout is just lost.

Behavior on the built-in audio device is similar, but the audio drops are shorter, perhaps only 250ms.

I too am having stuttering problems as you Brandon. Only started after upgrading to 23.10. It's exactly how you described it.
