Bug Description

Binary package hint: plasma-widget-menubar

I'm not sure if this belongs to plasma-widget-menubar, one of the involved libraries, or gimp, but (as you can see from the attached screen shot), no icons are available in the app menu except for the ones provided by the package itself. The generic ones are missing.

I do not think this is a bug. A while ago the decision was made to turn off icons in menus by default for Gtk apps. The rationale was that the icons did nothing to clarify the menu entry's purpose and only cluttered the user interface.

If you want to change this steting you can do the following:

Run gconf-editor (alt+f2, then type gconf-editor), go to desktop>gnome>interface and checking 'menus_have_icons'. You might also be interested in checking 'buttons_have_icons''.

That may be true for Ubuntu, but they are still used on Kubuntu.

This is a weird bug: I noticed the packaged versions do not show the icons, while my own build of qt + kde trunk do. Will investigate.

plasma-widget-menubar 0.1.13 has special handling for GTK apps which insist on using GTK icon names instead of freedesktop.org ones, this fixes some of the broken icons. You will still get quite a few generic "wilber heads" icons because GIMP uses lots of "gimp-<something>" icons. Since KDE icon loader cannot find them, it attempts to use the more generic version which is "gimp".
