Looks like a local misconfiguration:

* Error: Invalid line 59 in /etc/postgresql/9.1/main/postgresql.conf: »listen_addresses = 'localhost','*' # what IP address(es) to listen on;

However, it should probably ignore such a failure on removal.

Changed in postgresql-9.1 (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Triaged
summary: - package postgresql-9.1 9.1.3-2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess
- installed pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
+ package removal fails on postgresql.conf syntax error
