siggen not working out of the box

siggen (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

The applications in the siggen package will only work if they are run via aoss . Otherwise the application will exit with the following error:
No such file or directory : /dev/dsp
Perhaps the package should take care and install proper shell scripts that run it with aoss

Pending the resolution of this bug, you can use the command "play-n synth".

play -n works fine for generating tones, but it is not interactive so I can't adjust the frequency on the fly.

The keyword aoss mentioned above lead to the following workaround:

> aoss siggen

Thanks @kede for this workaround!

I also understand it so that the oss-compat dependency will make things run when the system is rebooted after install or maybe some command to load a kernel module is issued manually.

It would be polite for the programs that rely on /dev/dsp to output a message telling users to reboot when /dev/dsp is not found.
