running snap application as normal user gives chroot error

Bug Description

when running the lxc cli, i get the following error
vagrant@vagrant-ubuntu-trusty-64:~$ lxc
chroot: cannot change root directory to '/var/lib/snapd/hostfs': Operation not permitted

looking at the snap binary, i expected a suid root binary
ls -lad /usr/bin/snap
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 15519760 Aug 31 10:23 /usr/bin/snap

this is in a fresh ubuntu/trusty64 vagrant machine
apt-get install snapd
snap install lxd

I also have the same problem with LXD on Solus. Current workaround : use of sudo.

i might be barking up the wrong tree, installing lxd version 'edge' solved the problem. It might be a problem with the snap itself instead of the snapd
