Bug Description

This is a new version of snapd.

The changelog is available here https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/blob/2.66.1/packaging/ubuntu-16.04/changelog, the raw git changelog is available here: https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/commits/2.66.1 (note that the debian changelog is auto-generated from the merges of the git commits so there is usually no need to look at the raw git commits).

The snappy team released a new release that we want SRU into focal+. The process described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SnapdUpdates was used and we have done integration-tests on the snappy images, autopkgtests on classic and unit tests.

GitHub Actions test runs can be found at https://github.com/canonical/snapd/actions/runs/11306758234

Important information:
----------------------

2.66.1 Known Issues

[1] Bug related to mount control interface using specific combination of mount options e.g. ro,rw
    - Breaking change, that is believed to impact very few Ubuntu Core devices
    - Impact specific Ubuntu Core devices that makes use of mount-control interface, more specifically using certain combinations of mount options
    - Waiting for information (query) from store team to inform how widespread this issue is, beyond the known case
    - Workaround suggested, awaiting feedback

[2] Unlikely deadlock related to refresh app awareness, reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapd/+bug/2084730
    - Fix in progress: https://github.com/canonical/snapd/pull/14671

Require final decision and statement on both of these known issues before snapd 2.66.1 may be released.

Hey Ernest! Is the fix for [2] already included in the 2.66.1 release? Since I see the code is merged.

No it is not, the merge happened too late. But also note, the deadlock issue is not new, so not a regression in 2.66.1.

In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

What we usually asked for is to make sure every packaging change is made clear whenever happening. While reviewing the package, I notice that there's a whole new set of changes in the rules file for FIPS handling. Let's make sure we keep that in mind while testing.

Is there any other hot-changes regarding system integration we should keep an eye out?

Hi Lukasz,

[1] As requested, I added the now required additional build of snapd 2.66.1+25.04 in snappy image PPA. It is currently still building.

When done, would you please upload to proposed as well.

[2] In addition, we looked at he autopkg failures, it looks like infra issues, all failures fail early in the same way... Would you please trigger re-runs?

I hadn't re-triggered the tests on jammy and focal though (they had already passed on noble) and I've done so now. The infra issues are still present however so the tests may need an unknown number of retriggers to pass.
