software manager works 50% of the time,rest of the time blank screen have to log out/in to get it back

Hi Doug, and thank you for your report. From your description, this appears to be a duplicate of bug 772549, so I have marked it as such. This bug has been fixed in Ubuntu 12.04, due to be released later this week.
