Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

Unbuntu version 7.10
Synaptic 0.60ubuntu5

I didn't understand the meaning of (upstream) in the context of "upgradable (upstream)".
I found no expanation of this term in Synaptic help.

It is an ambiguous and unneeded qualifier. Unless there is an alternative form of "upgradable" such as (downstream) or (yellow-brick-road), why not simply drop the reference?

Thanks for your report.

The string is in gtk/glade/window_filters.glade and common/rpackageview.cc and is displayed when 'Custom filter' is selected.
Marking as triaged.

Thanks for your bugreport and thanks to Robert for the proposed fix.

The difference between the "normal" upgradable and the "upgradable (upstream)" is that the former counts every package. But the later will omit version that only differ in the debian/uubntu revision.

E.g.
1.0-2 -> 1.0-3 is upgradable but not in the upgradable (upstream) filter.

Its a bit tricky to find a short string describing the difference.
