The error mentioned in apt-term log is :

Setting up tex-common (2.06) ...
Running mktexlsr. This may take some time... done.
No packages found matching texlive-base.
dpkg: error processing tex-common (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

The same error is found in the following bugs :

when trying to install/upgrade tex-common package 2.06 . I am marking these bugs as duplicate.

This bug is not fixed in tex-common 2.06ubuntu1 either as the following bugs give the same error on installing/upgrading that package :

error in installing / uninstalling software through software center / synaptic / terminal

I am a newbie and have Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS inside virtualbox. I update it regularly.

I cannot install any software through software center, synaptic or through terminal. Soffware gets downloaded, but the installation fails.

here is the error.

I tried

sudo apt-get clean
 sudo apt-get update
 sudo apt-get upgrade

and

sudo dpkg --configure -a
 sudo apt-get install -f

sudo apt-get install -f is also giving error

I solved the problem by removing tex-common

I could install software through Ubuntu Software Center / Synaptic / Terminal
