That sounds really great, a very important and useful function the
Ubuntu Team has never seen... Have you even put this in the Ubuntu
Brainstorm? Maybe there your idea would be taken ;)

I don't believe this is a valid papercut or even a bug. I do believe it should be place into Ubuntu Brainstorm as it is not a trivial problem that can be fixed by 'one developer in one day', as per the definition of a papercut, and it sounds more like a whole new application, rather then a fix for an existing one. GUIs that are applied to CLI application are not consider fixes, rather new and separate applications that are optional. Also, the definition of a papercut states that an 'average user' should encounter it in their day-to-day computing habits, and reinstalling the boot loader is something that only a power user, and at the very least an above average user, would resort to.

It would be very useful to have this functionality, but as Chris notes, it is larger than what can be achieved in a day. I can't see an existing bug open to provide this support in Ubiquity (or another part of the LiveCD infrastructure) so making it as a Wishlist item there for the moment.

Indeed a month ago I was helping somebody though just this issue (MS Windows installation afterwards had killed grub and they just wanted a working machine back).
