Bug Description

Upgrading 16.04.4 to 17.04 via Software Updater. All went well until almost the last few minutes when I got the error msg: "Could not install 'var/cache/apt/archives/ubuntu-docs_17.04.03_all.deb'". Added message was: Symbolic link '/usr/share/help/br/ubuntu-help/addremove-sources.page' size has changed from 60 to 0.

Shortly thereafter I got a second error: "Could not install ubuntu.docs" Additional msg was: "Package ubuntu-docs is already installed and configured" (Quotes in both cases are mine)
A few seconds later I got the Error that the upgrade failed then the screen reverted back to the desktop.

At that point I opened a terminal to check to see what was really running and got:

r@r-M-7301U:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 17.04
Release: 17.04
Codename: zesty
r@r-M-7301U:~$

I was running 16.04.4 when I started.

Hope this covers what happened vs what I expected.

Hi Gunnar, Thanks so much for the prompt response. I just finished
purging and reinstalling ubuntu-docs per your instructions and that seems
to have fixed the problem, at least by what I saw in the terminal. I don't
know if you need to see it or not but here's a copy of it anyway:

Great that it worked. Actually this kind of problem has been reported several times before, which is the reason why I marked this report as a duplicate bug.

One thing I see is that there seems to be room for cleaning up your disk from unneeded packages by running the command:

sudo apt autoremove

(That command will take quite some time to complete.)

Thanks for the advice on cleaning up the disk. I'll give it a go later
this morning. Thanks again, you've been a great help!

Ran sudo apt autoremove, worked great! Freed up a bunch of disk space.
