Bug Description
The error message I received for this problem invited me to submit a bug report.
(1) PROBLEM: I upgraded from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 on 12 Dec. 2020. I first made sure the 18.04 system was properly updated.
(2) METHOD OF UPGRADE: I upgraded using the standard "Software Updater", hence I had no opportunity to make a mistake.
(3) ERROR MESSAGE: The process went smoothly until the very end before "restart", when the following message appeared in a box:
"The upgrade will continue but the 'linux-
package may not be in a working state. Please consider submitting a bug
report about it.
installed linux-image-
subprocess returned error exit status 1"
(4) CURRENT KERNEL: "uname -r" indicates that the current kernel is "5.4.0-58-generic". So "4.15.0-
CURRENT MALFUNCTIONS
(1) The main problem so far is that updates are not possible. Using the "Software Updater", I receive an "Not all updates can be installed" box. A "partial upgrade" says "removing linux-image-
"Could not install the uprades. The upgrade has aborted. Your system could be in an unusable state. A recovery will run now (dpkg-configure -a)".
Then:
"Upgrade complete. The upgrade has completed but there were errors during the upgrade process."
(2) The system does not awaken from sleep properly. It shows only a dark blue screen or complete multicoloured snow with vertical lines or various patterns. No login screen. I have to reboot with "Alt. PrintScr. REISUB"
NORMAL FUNCTIONS SO FAR
There is an internet connection, email works, browsers work and the Gnome screen shows up normally.
