This is uploaded now to hirsute (the new in-development release) and groovy (it's in the review queue, look out for a message to test when it's accepted).

This bug was fixed in the package ubuntu-wallpapers - 20.10.3-0ubuntu1

Hello NP, or anyone else affected,

Accepted ubuntu-wallpapers into groovy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-wallpapers/20.10.3-0ubuntu0.20.10.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-groovy to verification-done-groovy. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-groovy. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

I have tested package version 20.10.3-0ubuntu1. I can verify that everything is working now. The background is now set correctly.

Sorry, we don't do that. The current default greyscale wallpaper only is shown there, and this happens via ubuntu-wallpapers.xml. The reason is that we found that if we show them all (if you have multiple ubuntu-wallpapers-* installed) then it's very hard to tell between the different wallpapers, they all look quite similar when shrunk to the small size in the wallpaper selector.

So if you can see the default grey wallpaper in Settings at all, then that's good for us.

Hey everyone! Thank you for your verification. The version numbers in the validation comments makes me a bit confused - the groovy SRU is 20.10.3-0ubuntu0.20.10.1, even though all verification seems to have been done on 20.10.3-0ubuntu1? Which packages have been tested on groovy in that case?

The package in groovy-proposed is a no-change backport of 20.10.3-0ubuntu1.

But nevertheless, I've verified the fix with 20.10.3-0ubuntu0.20.10.1 installed now. The grey gorilla appears fine.
