applications sometimes launched under the unity launcher

Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

Sometimes when an application is launched, it is opened under the unity panel. This seems to happen with gnome-terminal and tomboy notes often. Eg, 'ctrl+alt+t' and the terminal can be under the unity launcher depending on what other windows are open. More recent updates have the unity panel slide off the screen as a result of this. Either way, after launch the window needs to be moved, which is inconvenient.

I have not found an duplicate (yet) from grepping the last 5,000 bug mails. I there are various related stacking/overlapping issues I found:

  * bug #695638 "menus are not always stacked at the top and so not visible"
  * bug #684649 "Nautilus desktop icons should never be under the launcher"

If there's not an exact one, but it's more of a Wishlist... that windows shouldn't (by default) cause the Launcher to hide.

It is, see bug #688816. Please try to look for them as we have a huge bug flow already.

Looking for "window under launcher" in launchpad gave it to me at the 12th position in less than one minute…
