This bug is a duplicate of bug 873424 for which I've uploaded a fix to the -proposed repository of Oneiric. If you could test that package and comment on the bug saying that it works for you then we can move the new package to -updates for everyone to use.

Hi Brian,
All of this Ubuntu stuff is too complicated for me. I have no understanding,
nor indeed an interest in understanding, what you've written below. I went
back to my PC running Windows XP ages ago. It might be slow, but it never
crashes.

Please remove me from your database.
