Bug Description

I was using VLC to browse through a video file.
The video file was stored in an external HDD which is connected to the PC with USB.

The video file length was fairly long, so I was using the mouse cursor to quickly move to different parts of the video recording.

Suddenly Ubuntu freezed completely.
I could do NO OPERATION.
The mouse did move on the screen, but clicking it didn't help at all.
Same with the keyboard.

So, eventually, I completely turned off the PC by "long pressing" (about 3 seconds) the power button.

Then after that I turned on the PC and reconnected to Ubuntu, I noticed that my syslog file became HUGE - its size was 6GiB = 6GB.

So I collected all the relevant log output which repeated many times - please see in the attached files which are named "err_X.txt" where X is an integer between 1 to 4.
The relation between "err_Y.txt" and "err_Z.txt" is as follows:
If Y<Z then it means that the contents of err_Y.txt appeared in syslog BEFORE the contents of err_Z.txt.

Regarding the attached log files, named "err_X.txt":
 * I censored it, for example I replaced the hostname with the text "<hostname>".
 * Some of the messages repeated *many* times, especially those in err_3.txt

---------------------------

Details about my system:

My Ubuntu version is 22.04.1 LTS.

$ uname -r
5.15.0-60-generic

$ vlc --help 1>/dev/null
Driver does not support the 0x4c8b PCI ID.
libGL error: failed to create dri screen
libGL error: failed to load driver: iris
VLC media player 3.0.18 Vetinari (revision 3.0.18-0-ge9eceaed4d)

---------------------------

My opinion:

This issue is probably related to the fact that we tried to read a lot of data from random locations in the HDD.
I'm not sure that VLC is related to this bug, because VLC can successfully perform the "same operations" when the file is stored in RAM (i.e. tmpfs/ramfs).
By "same operations" I mean to using the mouse cursor to quickly move to different parts of the video recording (as I wrote above..) AND VLC is also able to run the video at x10 speed.
BUT, maybe the *combination* of VLC with the slow HDD was causing the bug...
