I think this is a duplicate of Bug #1081108.

Anyway, it affects me and I'm really interested in any stable solution to this. Using the xorg-edgers repository, as suggested under Bug #1081108 seems too shaky for me.

Ove, thank you. I'm now running Inkscape under the xorg-edgers repository X server and it's been stable for several hours. (Better than not getting my holiday cards done!)
