Same error on OS X 10.9 with unetbootin-mac-585 from SourceForge. The app probably needs to be cryptographically signed.

I wondered if it was only the version on SourceForge, so I tried downloading unetbootin from Launchpad.net here: https://launchpad.net/unetbootin/+download

I was surprised to find that the version numbers are mismatched currently as LaunchPad has:

unetbootin-mac-575.zip

while Sourceforge has:

unetbootin-mac-585.zip

Running version 575 from LaunchPad gives Same initial error. Noticed that the "Open" and "Close" buttons are reversed on the dialog (seems Apple did this on purpose so you don't accidentally click open on an untrusted app). After clicking "Open" the app opens, but asks for administrative privileges to run an Applescript with 'osascript'.

This initial experience will definitely spook a user who does not know whether they can trust the app. The combination of mismatched versions, non-signed app, warning dialog, and asking for admin privileges to run an applescript would probably make most people suspicious.

Just some suggestions for improvement: sign the app, provide gpg signatures for releases, and find some way around using applescript (if possible) to avoid having a process name that most users may not recognize (osascript) in the privilege escalation password dialog.
