Bug Description

Hitting Super and typing the first few letters of the application I want to start frequently fails when I'm doing it too fast. Instead the first file search result gets opened. If I wait a bit after typing (less than a second), then the application starts like expected.

Computer is fast, dash opens fast, so I don't think _that_ is the problem.

Maybe realted: bug 841254 and bug 749428.

duplicate bug #856205? Can you give an example of what you type and what is ran?

Looks like bug #856205 is about the alt+f2 behavior?

For example, I hit <Super>, type "ged", press <Enter> and it opens the first result of the file search instead of gedit (which gets opened if I wait a bit longer before hitting <Enter>).

I have the same problem - after booting up my laptop and logging into Ubuntu 11.10 the first thing I do is starting some programs. I don't keep them all in the left pane, so I hit the super key and search for "firefox", "chromium" or "amarok", but the apps are not shown, only the results of the file lens are shown. It seems that the app lens isn't ready right after starting Ubuntu, as the app lens doesn't show up at the bottom when you press the super key (only the home lens, file and music lens are shown). I always have to press super key multiple times, i.e. open/close unity multiple times until the app lens is ready (and shows up at the bottom).
Ubuntu: 11.10 - 64 bit, Unity: 4.24.0-0ubuntu2b1, Kernel: 3.1.1-030101-generic

I believe the fix to bug 856205 would also fix this bug. The main cause for this and the related issue is already being looked into. (read a comment from kamstrup on a bug report.)

I marked this bug as duplicate of bug 856205 as I really think that is the fix for this situation.
